Guidelines for Deacon Programs
Edwin F. Hallenback, Ed. Guidelines for Deacon Programs, Second Edition (NAAD Working Papers, No. 277, 2002), pp.32
A product of the sixth Deacon Directors Conference, held March 15-17, 2002, this working paper attempts to answer: what does a deacon need to know; how does the Church test that knowledge; and how do we assure that a deacon in one place is much like a deacon in another place?

Deacons in the Episcopal Church
Edwin F. Hallenback, ed. Deacons in the Episcopal Church: guidelines
on their selection, training, and ministry (Providence, RI, NAAD, 1991), pp. 26.
First published in 1983, then revised in 1991, the guidelines are divided into four major parts: Part I, The Ministry of All Baptized Persons, sets the diaconate in the complete baptismal and eucharistic
ministry of the church and suggests general norms for deacons and for a diaconate program in each diocese. Part II, Recruitment and Selection, applies the principle of Gods call to the canonical process whereby congregations and dioceses identify and choose deacons. Part III, Training, discusses the academic, practical, and spiritual formation of those preparing to become deacons. Part IV, Deacons in theChurch, takes us through the ordination rite and deals with the roles of deacons,
their deployment, their service, and their supervision and support.
